UKAY-UKAY
refers to the common retail practice in the Philippines where surplus, secondhand or pre-owned clothing is sold at a discount.
BALE
Factory sealed packages of clothing, the contents are completely random and may contain over 50-100 pieces in one package.
WAGWAGAN
An Ilocano verb that means “shake”, it refers to shaking off the dust off items. This used to be the term for ukay-ukay in the early to late 1990’s but other speakers have difficulty speaking it, hence in 2000’s it was changed to ukay-ukay.
NEW ARRIVAL
Refers to clothes that are newly delivered to the store.
LP
LP stands for last price, it refers to the product’s price being non-negotiable. Most of the time, it means that you cannot haggle the price lower than the given.
LOC
Shortened form of “location.” Often used by buyers to ask about the seller’s location to assess details regarding shipping.
MINE
Typically used by customers in online ukay-ukay stores as part of the "mine, steal, grab" system. To comment "mine" is to reserve an item.
GRAB
Typically used by customers in online ukay-ukay stores as part of the "mine, steal, grab" system. To comment “grab” is to purchase it automatically at the highest given price.
STEAL
Typically used by customers in online ukay-ukay stores as part of the "mine, steal, grab" system. To comment “steal” is to take away the reservation of the first buyer.
